John's uncle, known in the family as Uncle Chick, founded the company. John learned the sampling trade working alongside him before taking over the business. That apprenticeship connects the firm's early history to the people doing the work today.
John joined the family business after college and learned the trade under his uncle. He became principal in 1999. His work spans coffee and cocoa sampling, surveying, inspection, and grading, with an emphasis on understanding each client's question and documenting the findings.
